Virtual Chairman’s Report (2008/9)

This year has been something of a transition.  At the start of the year, the committee was at a low ebb, such that no permanent Chairman could be appointed at the AGM. This had a knock-on effect in that only a single fund-raising activity (Indoor Boot Sales) could be run during the year. However, following a final plea, fresh and enthusiastic support was forthcoming which has secured the PTA’s future.

Several PTA officers will be stepping down next year (2010), and we have therefore started transferring some of their responsibilities to new PTA members.  One key example is the Indoor Boot Sales, which have already been handed over to Pam Brewster and remain very successful, both in terms of their popularity with the sellers and public, and also in terms of PTA fund raising.

This year’s leavers Prom was also very successful, although sadly the last at this venue.  Due to a change in management and pricing at the Lord Roberts Centre, we can no longer afford to hold Proms there.  Again, we’ve used the change of venue as a convenient moment to hand over Prom organisation to a new team.

As part of the transition we’ve also committed to catch up on all outstanding Gift Aid claims, and also to move as much as possible of the PTA website and email onto the school’s new system.

I will not be standing next year, since my time is up.  I have already seen some of the proposals from our potential new PTA members, and it’s all new, different, and quite exciting.  I’d like to publically acknowledge all the help and support I have received over the last 9 years, and I wish you all well and every success for the future.
